Lomatunnelmaa - Blasts from the past :)

 

Ihanaa alkanutta elokuuta! 🍓

Tämän postauksen suomenkielinen otsikko on hämäystä, koska minulla ei oikeastaan ole (kesä)lomaa. Kuvatkin ovat aiemmilta vuosilta. Syy tähän postauksen on jälleen kerran pilvipalvelun, joka ehdottelee menneiden vuosien kuvia. :) Tällä kertaa innostuin kokoamaan tunnelmia, jotka kertovat lomasta, herkuista, kirkkaista väreistä ja lämmöstä.

Tämä kuva on Kew Gardensin kaupasta. Lämpimään teemaan sopien taimissa näyttäisi olevan ainakin timanttikukkaa, chiliä, inkaliljaa ja punaista Lobeliaa. 

Paljon en ole ehtinyt lukea, mutta lukaisin toissa viikolla yhden Donna Leonin Brunetti-kirjan. Pidin siitä niin vähän, että en tee siitä edes postausta. Muutama hauska kohta jäi kuitenkin mieleeni. Tässä Brunettin vaimo Paola kertoo ihanasta aamustaan:

It was still early, before nine, and there weren't a lot of people around. I stopped in a pasticceria, a place I've never been before, and I had a brioche that was made of air and a cappuccino that tasted like heaven, and the barman talked about the weather with everyone who came in and ...

Tänä vuonna kasvatin siemenestä hajuherneitä ja salkoruusuja. Hajuherneet kasvavat kuin taikapavut, tietenkin, mutta salkoruusuista ei tullut kukkijoita tänä kesänä. Lohduksi sitten tällainen kuva Ruotsista:

A travel diary: Olympic Park, Stratford

Hello all and greetings from the vibrant East London! :) For logistical reasons, I decided to stay in Stratford (a town and parish in London, in the borough of Newham). The weather was sunny and warm at the end of July... and still is. With the temperatures around and above 30C, I really appreciated the well-working air conditioning of my hotel room. 

The meadows and fields of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park must look gorgeous in spring and early summer. As you may know, the sunny and dry weather has turned many of the UK's outdoor spaces from lush green to a dry, yellow-brown. Nevertheless, schedules permitting, I happily trotted around, snapping photos (with a compact camera) of flowers and other interesting things.

Hei, blogiystävät, ja terveisiä aurinkoisesta ja kuumasta Lontoosta! :) Reilun viikon mittainen matka oli aivan liian lyhyt... mutta paljon kuvia ehdin räpsiä. Lontoon olympiapuisto on vuoden 2012 kesäolympialaisia varten rakennettu alue Stratfordissa, joka avattiin kokonaisuudessaan yleisölle 2014. Kastelemattomat nurmet eivät tämän kesän helteessä viheriöineet, mutta kukkaistutuksissa loistivat varsinkin paahdetta sietävät lajit.

Matkapostauksissa tulee olemaan pääasiassa kuvia ja vain vähän tekstiä. Kysymyksiä saa esittää erittäin mielellään. :)

Postcards #5: Vättern, Sweden

From the beautiful gardens of Uppsala, we continued our journey towards the south. Our route followed the shore of Lake Vättern and the landscape was varied and beautiful.

Vättern is the second largest lake (by surface area) in Sweden and the fifth largest lake in Europe. It's more than 100 km long and, according to Wikipedia, its deepest known point is 128 meters.

It was already becoming late. Fortunately we found a very nice small hotel in  the town of Gränna - the famous city of polkagrisar, Swedish candy sticks, invented in 1859.

This was the view from our hotel room window:

In the morning the weather was still cloudy...

... but it soon became better...

... and we happily arrived to Lund, where the houses along the streets looked like this... :)
