Early winter - a sunny day

In the last few days we have been able to enjoy bright sunshine. The sun still warms. When I have seen on the computer how my photos of the spontaneous heathers, taken in the morning, were out of focus, it was too late to try again. The white "flowers" of ice had already disappeared.

Yet, I do like this photo. It combines elegance with cheerfulness... :D

Heathers in window boxes look happy, too.

Behind the branches of a small pine tree, you can see the sheet of ice that now partially covers "our" lake. Too thin for skating yet...

Strange creatures have appeared during the night... More prosaically, it seems to be a leaf with ice crystals attached to it.  Searching the Web for images of "hoar frost", as I just did, one can see stunning photographs.

There are still drops of colour...

Depending on where you are... Have a nice day! or Good night!

  1. Beautiful photos Sara. Frost is so beautiful and so photogenic! We have not had a heavy frost here in eastern Canada yet, but it's not far off. I especially like your last three shots with the red berries- they would make wonderful Christmas cards!

  2. Hi Sara
Do you normally have freezing temperatures and snow this early? Beautiful photos of sun, ice and berries, sparkly like gems. When we have a hoar frost I'm out right away with my camera as it creates a fantasy land and the leaf you captured does look like a little creature.
    Stay warm!

    1. Hi Judith

The cold weather did come rather early this year.
Because of the country's geographical position, in Finland weather types during any season vary much and can change rapidly. Where I live, the first snow cover comes, on average, at the end of October and the permanent snow cover at the end of November. Our weather conditions are a mix of both maritime and continental climate, depending on the direction of the winds. We also are located in a zone where tropical and polar air masses meet. We don't get bored here! :)

      Have a lovely weekend! xxx

  4. The window boxes look so pretty - I love the delicate flowers of heather.
The red berries bring wonderful colour to the cold landscape.
I hope you're enjoying your weekend Sara.

    1. Thank you, Shane!
Now the weather has changed again. The drizzle has made icy roads and paths really slippery. We need to climb a small hill to get our newspapers (just think that somebody delivers them to mailboxes at 4 a.m. every morning), and to come down is the tricky part. :)
Have a nice new week! xxx

  5. Hi Sara! Oh my gosh...your photos are gorgeous...I just love the way that frost or snow enhances the already beautiful design of our plants and trees. The heather is absolutely breathtaking! You have a really lovely blog. Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you, Debby, for your kind comment! Yes, I like the heather rather much myself too.
"Gorgeous" and "breathtaking" are very good words... to describe your photos and blog!
