Lisbeth Werner: Puk seikkailee jälleen - Trees and sunshine

Helmet-lukuhaasteen kohta 38: Kirjan kannessa tai kuvauksessa on puu

Tämä kohta on helppo. :) Kirjoja puista minulla on vaikka kuinka paljon.

Tanskankielinen alkuteos on ilmestynyt 1969. Suomennos on Kaisa Peltosen.

Julkaisen samalla uudelleen kuvia yhdestä lempipostauksestani viiden vuoden takaa.

In English: Hello all! Today I post some old photos, taken in March 2015. There was much more snow back then. :)

The sun was shining brightly. The weather was windy, but otherwise it was silent and peaceful in the wood. Only the peeling birch bark was flapping in the wind.

Even though there was much snow, it was easy to walk around because the snow crust was thick and strong. I wasn't familiar with the English term and was happy to find a really helpful meteorological glossary, by the American Meteorological Society, available at http://glossary.ametsoc.org/wiki/Main_Page.

Thus, a snow crust is "a crisp, firm, outer surface upon snow.  -  Basically, three types of snow crusts exist, formed by 1) the refreezing of surface snow, after melting and/or wetting, to form a hard layer of snow (sun crust, rain crust, spring crust); 2) the packing of snow into a hard layer by wind action (wind crust, wind slab); and 3) the freezing of surface water, however derived, to form a continuous layer of ice on top of snow (film crust, ice crust). A snow crust is designated as "breakable" or "unbreakable" according to its ability to support a person on skis."

One of the photos of my collage (at the top of this post) shows how the snow crust carried easily a person, even without skis or snowshoes.

The bark of a Scots pine is thin, flaky and almost orange on the upper trunk and branches:

Woollen mittens are warm and surprisingly wet-and-snow-resistant. :)

In March 2015, I participated with this post in the following blog events: Mosaic Monday (link not valid anymore), Karen's Sunlit Sunday, Our World Tuesday and Wednesday around the World.

Stay safe and healthy!

Happy moments - Postia ja muuta ihanaa

Autumn has arrived, beautiful...

We did have a short Indian summer, of two days, and now we have had two foggy days. Fog is a perfect match with the colourful autumn foliage...and it also reminds me of the beautiful years lived in Italy. When I was young, I wouldn't have known that fog plus fairy lights equals a very Christmassy atmosphere. :)

Jäätelön päälle... From Italy with love.

Verikanukalla on tyylikäs syysväritys.

While I was away: Butterflies and brocante

Rosa spinosissima (pimpinellifolia) 'Plena'

Hello all, in this post there are some things I meant to share with you already a while ago but didn't have time. Blimey, I too am finding it hard to keep up... but quitting blogging is not an option at the moment. :)

To mark Finland’s centenary of independence, several Finnish nature organisations asked Finnish people to vote for a butterfly to represent the nation. The winner was... the wonderful holly blue (Celastrina argiolus). The first runner-up was the European peacock, and the mourning cloak reached the third place. Over 6,300 Finns (yours truly among them :)) favoured the holly blue over the other candidates. You can see all the candidates in the photo above. All in all, 36,500 votes were cast during the spring and the winner was crowned as the national butterfly in June.

Finland already had a national bird (whooper swan), animal (brown bear), flower (lily-of-the-valley), fish (perch), and a tree (silver birch). :) We even have our "national rock" and it's of course granite.

R. spinosissima (pimpinellifolia) 'Plena', known also as the 'Finnish Double White', creamy white-flowered and fragrant, is the most Finnish of our roses.

I think they look best in the soft evening sun.

Puutarhablogeissa vastaillaan nyt kiitollisuuspäiväkirjahaasteeseen. (Hieno idea!)

Every now and then I buy a copy of Jeanne d'Arc Living Magazine. Many of you may know it - it's Danish and very beautifully illustrated.

Minulla on perinteenä, että odotellessani KYS:ssa (omien tai muiden syiden takia) ostan "kanttiinista" Jeanne d'Arc Living -lehden. :)

Melkein 10 euron hintaan toivoisi kyllä saavansa lehden, jossa tekstin sujuvuuteen (käännetty todennäköisesti tanskasta suomeen) olisi kiinnitetty enemmän huomiota. Hmmm, käännöstoimiston nimi näkyykin olevan Word to Word ("The best translations at the best prices")...

Alla näkyvässä artikkelissa on tapetoitu seinä Flora Danica -kirjan sivuilla.

Another beautiful Finnish rose...

Rosa 'Sävel'

'Sävel'-tarhakurtturuusua voin suositella, se on hyvin terve ruusu.

Maljakossa 'Ilo'-lajiketta:

♥ May the breeze carry you scents of roses, lupins, alsike clovers and flowering raspberries! ♥

Happy pontism!

pontist (noun) 1. A historic bridge enthusiast who enjoys either lobbying for preservation
and/or who enjoys visiting and photographing historic bridges.
2. Anyone who enjoys working with or visiting/photographing bridges of any kind. (Urban Dictionary)

Hello, my name is Sara and I'm a gephyrophile... but fortunately I'm not the only one. There's a Google+ community for bridge admirers and there's a great UK blog called The Happy Pontist where you can find really interesting posts related to bridges.

Bridges are one of the few cases, where the rule "the bigger, the better" does apply. :)

Unfortunately, I went digital (and started to take more photos) only rather recently, so I don't have a large stock of bridge photos.  A year ago, we crossed the Øresund strait between Sweden and Denmark (and I posted some of these photos).

Now the next Sunday's Our Beautiful World photo challenge (the prompt is BRIDGE) is a great excuse to post more of the photos taken. The one above shows the last of the bridges you cross on your way from Sweden to Denmark mainland. The following photos are in the order they have been taken.

The Øresund Bridge (below), between Malmö and Copenhagen, is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe. It was the setting for the 2011 Swedish/Danish TV crime drama "The Bridge". (The fourth and final series will be shot in late 2016, probably airing in 2018. - There has been also the homonymous American version.)

I know some of my dear blogging friends don't particularly like bridges. For you there's a cute lighthouse at the bottom of this post. ♥

A proposito, blogging friends... Thank you so much for your lovely comments! They never cease to amaze and delight me - and they make these posts much more interesting.

Kiitos kaikille ihanista ja mielenkiintoisista kommenteista esimerkiksi edelliseen postaukseeni! Tällä kertaa nyt hieman erilaisia kuvia:

Have a happy day! xx
