Postcards #3: Uppsala University's Botanical Garden

The oldest Botanical Garden in Sweden, it was laid out as a royal garden in the mid-17th century and in 1787 donated  to Uppsala University by Gustav III.

My first ever photo of Wollemia nobilis:

For the beginning of our vacation, we unfortunately had a tight schedule, with almost 3,000 km to drive in five days. This time we didn't visit Stockholm, for example, and in Uppsala there would have been so much more to see...

The historic quarter, to the west of the river Fyris, is really beautiful, with many interesting buildings and much greenery, lots of flowers and big, old trees.

However, what really made us fall in love with Sweden were its inhabitants, always cheerful and kind and ready to help a traveller.

I'm participating, of course, in

    1. Thank you, Eileen!
I liked especially the Orangery, with its Mediterranean plants and cacti... and the wollemia. Outside the building (in the summer) there are also laurels planted by Carl Linnaeus himself. They are said to be among the oldest potted plants in the world; he bought them more than 250 years ago from Holland. :)
      Have a lovely new week!

The pyramids should be common spruce (Picea abies). Oh no, I forgot to take close-ups of them!

  5. Jep, ruotsalaiset ovat ystävällisiä meille suomalaisille. Usein hävettää meidän monien suomalaisten asenne ruotsalaisia kohtaan.

  10. The botanical gardens are quite formal aren't they? Mostly shaped greens and the fabulous Wollemia nobilis. I saw one of these in the greenhouse of our Royal Botanical gardens and our group was fascinated by it.
It's nice that you were able to get away for a vacation and can now share it with us - armchair travel certainly has its merits. :-)
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Sara.

    1. Se on siltä vanhalta hyvältä ajalta, jolloin rakennukset suunniteltiin kauniiksi... ainakin minun mielestäni. :)
Harmittaa miten monta hyvää kuvakulmaa jäi ikuistamatta.
