2017 revisited, part 1

Hello all... and happy 2018! I have picked some of my favourite photos taken last year. They are many and they have been chosen with no discernible logic, indeed with no logic whatsoever. :)

Weatherwise, the year 2017 wasn't the happiest. We were not hit by severe disasters, but the year being unusually cool and rainy has damaged the agriculture and forestry. And it has been so terribly dark, especially now in winter when the days are short. One, two weeks ago I noticed that the sun was colouring in pink and gold the tops of the trees on the other side of the lake, but before I had my snowsuit on, the sun rays had already disappeared and it was starting to snow ... :D

Tervetuloa, vuosi 2018! Jos sopii, voisit olla hieman aurinkoisempi ja lämpimämpi kuin edeltäjäsi...

One of my best bird photos ever

Last year I took my first photos of (Eurasian) cranes. The photos make me think of Japan... and I just learned that in Japanese culture the red-crowned crane is a mystical creature, and symbolising for example loyalty and strength, it is featured for example in the international logo of Japan Airlines.

Zen :)

  2. Who needs logic, Sara, with pictures so beautiful. Every one is a gem and I am sure you could have selected totally at random and provided a feast for our eyes. I am looking forward to what you will have for us in 2018.

  4. Sara, these pictures are just lovely! I love the tulips so much, they are an impossibl gardening dream to me: I couldn't grow a tulip to save my life here (same with Peonies and lupins)The squirrels are very cute ¿are they shy creatures? the local squirrels here are very very shy and rarely enter my garden. Wish you a wonderful 2018!

    1. Thank you, MDN! :)
I would say "our" squirrels are cautious, an justly so. They are wild animals, and we don't for example try to hand feed them. Once one of them had entered my parents home through a door left open, but fortunately found its way out soon. :)
      They are cute and funny.
      Happy New Year!

  14. aahh, that yellow bird is sweet. Your squirrels look different than ours here. Ours are grey, fatter, and with a bushy tail. The hydrangeas are such a pretty color. This looks like a YUMMY doughnut! I hope the new year is being good to you, Sara.

    1. Why, at school of course! :D The Finnish education system used to be very good... Unfortunately now they keep trying to fix it, even though it ain't broke and the financial resources are scarce.
