Postcards #5: Vättern, Sweden

From the beautiful gardens of Uppsala, we continued our journey towards the south. Our route followed the shore of Lake Vättern and the landscape was varied and beautiful.

Vättern is the second largest lake (by surface area) in Sweden and the fifth largest lake in Europe. It's more than 100 km long and, according to Wikipedia, its deepest known point is 128 meters.

It was already becoming late. Fortunately we found a very nice small hotel in  the town of Gränna - the famous city of polkagrisar, Swedish candy sticks, invented in 1859.

This was the view from our hotel room window:

In the morning the weather was still cloudy...

... but it soon became better...

... and we happily arrived to Lund, where the houses along the streets looked like this... :)

Have a lovely weekend!

  3. What lovely images of your vacation trip. That's a very big lake, I wonder if it has any good fish? As always, the flowers are beautiful, especially those hollyhocks....

  7. Ihanan idyllisen näköistä seutua! Näiden sun kuvien jälkeen on ehkä pakko päästä joskus lomailemaan eteläiseen Ruotsiin. Joko kohta ollaan matkalla Tanskaan? :)
