Cutie pies

There have been great photos of birds in many blogs recently.  Compared with those, my results may look rather modest, especially technically, but my models are really cute. This great tit (Parus major) seems to be inspecting the premises.

During the summer months, we don't really see them, but in winter they are common visitors around bird feeders.

These two photos have been taken through a window. It seems to be the easiest way to get enough near to the birds without scaring them off.

The willow tit (Parus montanus/Poecile montanus) has always been my favourite bird:

This photo too was taken through a window. I wanted to show it, because it's one of my first ones and definitely my best photo of a wood nuthatch or Eurasian nuthatch (Sitta europaea), here nonchalantly descending a tree head first:

Linking up with Mosaic Monday, hosted by Judith @ Lavender Cottage:

It has been lovely to see that, thus far, my blog has been visited by people
from more than twenty countries. I hope you will drop by again!

  2. You took such incredible photos. I've never seen the first type of bird but we've had the others in NC. The nuthatch is a favorite. Right now we have warblers in our feeders! Hugs, Diane

  3. Hello dear Sara
Your photos are incredible - the two of the bird on the wire are lovely and I agree he is inspecting things and checking out to see if all is safe before he makes his descent!!!
I marvel at how a bird can balance on a wire!
The Tit markings on his back and wings are very striking and then the soft yellow on his tummy.
Sparrows seem to be the only birds that visit me now as new people have moved in next door with at least 4 cats, who all love spending time in my garden!
I would much rather have the birds and I've got a feeder and bird bath too!
    Wishing you a happy week
    Shane x

  4. You have some of the same birds as us Sara although I have not seen the species Parus major. I'm glad you added a follow me section but I really had to look for it - how about at the top under the Google+ follow icon?
Just a suggestion as I know there will be many wanting to follow your blog.
Thank you for linking to Mosaic Monday.

  5. Your bird photos are great! It's always interesting to see which birds live in other areas of the world. What wonderful balance to be able to descend a tree head first!

  7. I always enjoy seeing posts of birds even though taken through the window, lol. They turned out fantastic. Lately I've seen a number of Magpie in our travels, they have beautiful flight and colours. The little one at the bird house feeder is the Willow Tit? We get a lot of those at home during the Winter months as well. thanks and take care

Odotan inspiraatiota hartaasti - tulleneeko?!

  10. Coming to your from the western part of the USA, the northern area of Colorado, known most for its fabulous skiing, which I do not do. I live, however, in the flat land or the prairie of the state. I love you bird photos. We have nut hatches that come to our feeder, but I have not be lucky enough to get good pictures of them. We feed them shelled peanuts. Birds go crazy over peanuts. Nice to meet you.
