Preparing for summer

lupins flowers vase

Eating ice cream in winter...?

Yes, because the ice cream sticks will be perfect plant markers. :)

ice cream sticks, popsickle sticks

Uni Posca Markers

Jäätelötikut olisivat tyylikkäitä nimikylttejä sellaisinaan, mutta koska käyttämäni tussi leviää käsittelemättömässä puussa, päätin värjätä tikut ensin maalikynillä. Jälki on peittävää ja tummaa. Kevyt hiominen hiekkapaperilla teki niistä sopivan kuluneen näköisiä. :)

plant labels, ice cream sticks

These weren't painted very well  -  and were printed even worse  -  but making them was fun. The next ones will look more elegant. :)

Seeing the labels, you can know what I'm going to sow...

There will be plants like this in my garden soon... :)

Many of these photos were taken last summer. I wanted to photograph some of my favourite gardening things... My first ever book about gardening:

My best secateurs...

fiskars secateurs

Another favourite: "A hoe is an ancient and versatile agricultural and horticultural hand tool..." :)
We use this kind of hoe to plant trees as well.

Canon EOS 450D...  Such an important tool!

Wishing you all a happy and sunny February!

Ihanaa helmikuuta!

  1. Jäätelötikku nimikyltit on mahtava keksintö! Pitäisi miettiä mitä istuttaa maahan kahteen paikkaan kesällä. Mutta onhan tässä vielä aikaa. Jotakin tosi helppohoitoista.

  2. Ooh onpas makeat ja innovatiiviset jädetikut! Ja kauniit kaiken lisäksi. Saa sitten syödä jäätelöä kuvan kanssa vielä. Mielenkiintoisia siemenkylvöksiä tulossa, havuja ja kevätlinnunhernettä? Ihania. Kultasade!! Pakko saada, omani kupsahti. Onpahan melkomoinen tykki sinulla kamerana, siinä haba kasvaa kun tuota kannattelee :)

  3. Olipas se mukava postaus. Hieno idea nuo jäätelötikut ja vielä maalattuina. Kiva kollaasi tulevan kesän kukista. Eli ihanaa kukintaa odotettavissa sinun puutarhassasi. - Ihanaa alkavaa helmikuuta.

  5. Ah, ah, kun tulisikin se kesä. Jaksaa, jaksaa, vai jaksaako. Joskus kyllä huolestuttaa tämä odotus. Tuleeko se kesä. kevätkin on kiva, ikääkuin kesän esikartano. Minä teen maltillisia suunnitelmia.

  8. Now that we are in Florida, I am so impatient for warm weather and flowers...lots of flowers at home! Hurry spring!
My old DSLR was a Canon 40D, darn heavy thing but it got me through Ireland and then broke. The minimum amount to fix it was so much that I decided to purchase a smaller and lighter Rebel T5 for less and I love it.
Glad to see you are a Fiskars fan too, my favourite and I have several pair. One with a power gear handle allows me to prune shrubs for hours at a time.
    Happy February Sara!

  11. Kauniita nimitikkuja. Minäkin hyödynnän jädetikkuja kylvöksissä melko usein. Kirjoitus vain ei säily niissä kovin hyvin etenkään tikun kostuessa.

  17. Maalatuista, kauniisti tekstatuista tikuista tuli kerrassaan hurmaavat 💚Minäkin olen käyttänyt jätskitikkuja askarteluun ja pieniin puutarhakoristeluihin, mutta en saattanut kuvitellakaan mitään noin upeaa.

Italialainen puutarhakirja - siinä on hohtoa 🌻 Ylin lupiinikuva tuo kesän elävästi mieleen. Sitä ennen nauttikaamme helmikuusta. Meille on yöllä satanut pieni kaunis kerros uutta lunta. Ihanaa! Luulen että minun on tänään pakko saada tuommoinen jäätelöpuikko 😎 Mukavaa torstaita !

  20. I love your plant markers. How lovely to be reminded of spring and things growing. I too am very fond of a special pair of secateurs and my sewing scissors are fiskars :o).

  21. Yes. My scissors are Fiskars. Very sharp. I just bought them. I have a pair of expensive German sewing shears that need to be sharpened. You are really temping us with the possibility of spring. Today here it is Ground Hog's Day. Do you have such day? Essentially somewhere in Pennsylvania, the mayor pulls a sleeping groundhog from its den on Feb. 2. If the critter in order to predict the arrival of spring. If he sees his shadow, we will have 6 more weeks of winter. He saw his shadow this morning. Love the ice cream sticks. You did do a very nice job of preparing them for the garden.

  24. Ihanaa kun on kylvösten nimitikut valmiina, sittenhän on jo homma puoliksi tehty! Tuo maalaus on hyvä vinkki, muuten tekstit tuhraantuvat. Onneksi tikkuja on varastossa. Meilläkin on juuri tuollainen vanha kuokka, joka on oikein tehokas rankemmassa kaivuussa! Valoisaa ja toiveikasta helmikuuta!

  25. What a cute idea and I like Ice Cream even in the winter. I bet your garden will be awesome.

  26. Tosi kauniit nimikyltit. Minäkin olen käyttänyt jäätelötikkuja samaan tarkoitukseen, mutta en ole keksinyt maalata niitä. Sen jälkeen nimikoiminen on tosiaan varmasti helpompaa. Aurinkoista helmikuuta!

  27. These plant markers are so lovely and sprightly. Seeing them makes you fancy to sow something. :)
Your garden surely will be wonderful. Though I think it is beautiful now as well, only in a different way. :)

  30. Hej Sara!

Smart med glasstickorna, jag gillar alla former av återbruk!

Jag skriver upp namnet på din fina kamera, jo, jag inser att kameran inte gör allt, det krävs en del av fotografen också men jag beundrar alltid dina häftiga bilder.

The camera is my brother's old one and it has very many useful features. In the photo you can also see the lens I most often use: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS.

  31. Oh wow, so much catching up to do. You are so organised Sara, so many wonderful flowers you are planning to grow. Do you have somewhere to keep all of your seedlings. Our garden is too small for a greenhouse and having dogs I don't like to have any glass.
Happy gardening and have a truly fantastic weekend, signing off for today :)XX
