Finnish floral stamps, part 1

After the German stamps in my previous post, today I show you some Finnish floral stamps. Oh, there are plenty of them and in 1982 was also issued a stamp to celebrate gardening. :) In the stamp above, you can see the word "garden" written in our two official languages, Finnish and Swedish.

I have never been a philatelist, but I have enjoyed collecting stamps and now I'm especially happy to have had the occasion to store them in digital form and to share them with you. Appetite comes with eating - soon I will show you for example Finnish bird stamps as well! :)

Saksalaisten kukkamerkkien (edellinen postaukseni) innoittamana aloin lajitella vuosien varrella talteen kerättyjä postimerkkejä ja löysin myös tuon ylimpänä olevan Puutarha-merkin. Muistaako/tietääkö kukaan onko Suomessa julkaistu muita puutarhanhoitoa juhlistavia merkkejä?

Olen ryhmitellyt merkkejä koon ja muodon mukaan. Pienempiä kukkamerkkejä riittää vielä ainakin yhteen postaukseen. :)

Wishing you a happy Sunday
and a great week ahead!

Mukavaa alkavaa viikkoa!

  2. Ihana postaus. Hienoa että meillä on noin paljon puutarha-aiheisia postimerkkejä. Itse en valitettavasti ole edes kiinnittänyt huomiota näihin kauniisiin postimerkkeihin. Mutta tästä lähtien - kyllä! - Mukavaa sunnuntaita Sara!

meneviin kirjeisiin. Äiti on puutarhaihminen 🌺

    1. Ja itsekin voi kerrata niitä latinalaisia nimiä. :)
Varsinkin menneinä vuosina olin todella ylpeä suomalaisista postimerkeistä ja koetin lähettää ulkomaille niitä laajan valikoiman.

  6. Ovat kyllä minun silmääni kovin rumia, lukuun ottamatta ihan noita uudempia. Ihanan katsauksen olit koonnut.

    1. Rumia? :D Onhan meillä näköjään erilainen maku joissakin asioissa! :) Minusta Suomessa julkaissuista merkeistä vanhemmat ovat kauniimpia.
Postin toiminnasta olisi minulla aika paljon huomauttamista, tyyliin ennen-oli-paremmin-nyt-on-huonommin.

  7. Such lovely stamps Sara. What better choice for stamps than anything garden related! I collected stamps for a number of years when I was much younger, and got great enjoyment from it. Loved the colourful designs, and those from countries I was not very familiar with. Such a great way to learn about our world!

Letters (and stamps) were an important way to learn about other countries when we were young. Does anyone remember pen pals? :)

  9. Seeing your beautiful stamps, I looked for my old stamps. When I was a child, I collected them... and bottle labels, and paper napkins. :) After all, only stamps remained, I still keep one if I get a nice one on a letter. :D But it happens very rarely. :(
Browsing my stamps brings a Swedish poem to my mind from my school years:
    Siv Widerberg:
    Stamps
    I collected stamps
    Dad gave me a pound
    I didn't collect stamps anymore
    :)
    Have a lovely week!

Your lovely comment made me remember many funny things I collected when I was a child. In those times we had less "stuff" and we appreciated more the things we had.

  13. So beautiful Sara -- I also collected stamps as a child and I did have some from Finland as one of my childhood friends still had family there. But I don't remember any from there or anywhere as beautiful as those you show here. (But my childhood was very very long ago, so it is a wonder I remember anything ;>)..... I did not know that Swedish was a second official language for you. I wish I knew at least one other language. We are very lazy about that over here.

Not all Finns speak both Finnish and Swedish. We all try to learn English, which is by far the most useful language to know. :)

  14. I have never thought to collect stamps but I know it can be an ardent hobby for many. The garden/floral ones of Finland are very pretty and I think it would be fashionable to have coordinated writing paper.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if schools promoted pen pals again to children in grade school? I had one who lived in Japan so many years ago but we lost touch, which I regret.

I too had a Japanese pen friend, one from Ireland and one from Great Britain. It would be lovely to know what they are doing now.
So few people write letters any more. When I was young, you could buy high quality writing paper in any shop... :)

Kiinnostava postausaihe!

  26. Love the stamps! We can buy speciality stamps here; now stamps are 49 cents a piece. I buy the boring one, the forever stamp that does not have an amount of postage on it. It carries the American flag. Now I will buy Valentine stamps. Would you like one?
