Postcards #2: Uppsala, Sweden

Arrived to Sweden early on Sunday morning, we then drove on tranquil countryside roads to Uppsala.

This lovely city (with a population of ca. 140,000 inhabitants) is the site of the oldest university in Scandinavia. University Hall (below), the current main building, was completed in 1887. It's situated in University Park close to Uppsala Cathedral.

Carl Linnaeus (1707–78), the favourite scholar of us all, lived and taught here for many years. In 1750, he became rector of Uppsala University. His former home and garden were one of our main destinations during this travel...

The cathedral was built between 1270 and 1435. It's the biggest and tallest church in the Nordic countries and the seat of the Archbishop of Uppsala, the Primate of Sweden.

We loved our stay in Uppsala. In the next post, you can visit the University of Uppsala Botanical Garden with us. :)

  8. Olen 50-luvun lopulla asunut Ruotsissa, mutta en matkustellut siellä koskaan. Viehättäviä paikkoja, tulee ikään kuin minimatka katsojallekin näin. Kiitos. Minä olen todella tollahtanut paikalleni, ei postauksia, ei mitään - sade ryökäle pilasi kaiken -- ärrrrrr...
